DeAndre Hopkin’s hail mary catch on Sunday afternoon has been a huge talking point on all platforms of the media. If you are unfamiliar with what I am talking about ill describe it. The Arizona Cardinals were down with little time left on the clock. Kyler Murray threw a last second hail mary and DeAndre Hopkins went up and caught the ball between 3 Buffalo Bills players to win the game. This moment has been broadcasted and pictured repeatedly on tv and all over social media. Obviously this catch has brought Hopkins a lot of exposure, but in addition it brought Nike $5.7 million dollars in exposure and heres why:

DeAndre Hopkins last minute hail mary catch

As you can see the catch show DeAndre Hopkins catching the ball in a pair of Jordan gloves. This image, along with many others, perfectly shows the Jordan brand towering over the other players. It is a perfect picture that I think we can expect to see in future Nike advertisments. This catch has been trending all over social media. The $5.7 million in exposure comes from an estimate of how much the brand has been exposed on all forms of media. And here is the crazy thing about this all, Hopkins is not a Nike sponsored athlete (for now atleast). We could see a Nike x Hopkins partnership in the future as his personal brand value just increased.

This catch could be in the running for play of the year bringing in more exposure for Nike. This catch shows the importance of visable branding in sports. Nike did not pay anything for this, but Hopkins used Nike branded gear giving them incredible exposure. One thing is for sure, Hopkins is now worth more and will be more marketable. I would not be surprised to see Hopkins become a Nike sponsored athlete soon.

If you have not seen the incredible play watch here
